On board the Foochow pole junk (trader) 3179 anchored at Weihaiwei. The photographer is on the starboard side of the waist looking forward showing a cargo hatch in the foreground with one of the ship's dogs near the mainmast pinrail. The junk's number is carved into the mainmast. The mainsail is stowed fore and aft. Another cargo hatch, with a man sitting on it, and a capstan are between the mainmast and the foredeck. Under the foredeck is the forecastle accommodation. The photographer was in the area in the periods 3 June to 7 October 1937 and 8 June to 4 September 1938. Negatives numbers P34519 to P34540 are all of this vessel taken on the same occasion.
