On board the Foochow pole junk (trader) 3179 anchored at Weihaiwei. The photographer is on the port side of the waist looking forward showing a cargo hatch in the foreground with two of the ship's dogs near the mainmast pinrail. The junk's number is carved into the mainmast. The fore and main sails are stowed fore and aft. Another cargo hatch and a capstan are between the mainmast and the foredeck. Under the foredeck is the forecastle accommodation. The photographer was in the area in the periods 3 June to 7 October 1937 and 8 June to 4 September 1938.
