On board the Foochow pole junk (trader) 3179 anchored at Weihaiwei. The photographer is on the starboard side of the forecastle deck house looking aft showing a hand operated bilge pump in the right foreground with a cargo hatch, a capstan and the mainmast prop before the mainmast. Abaft the mainmast is the chart house and the poop accommodation. The mainsail is stowed fore and aft. The photographer was in the area in the periods 3 June to 7 October 1937 and 8 June to 4 September 1938. Negatives numbers P34519 to P34540 are all of this vessel taken on the same occasion.
