Egg cup

An earthenware egg cup, with a border of zigzags and looped ribbon. The egg cup is transfer-printed in monochrome brown with the house flag of Lidgett & Sons, London (this is actually divided vertically, blue and red with a white cross pattée in the centre). The name 'LATIMER' is incribed on a garter belt around the flag. 'Latimer' was a sailing vessel of 1734 tons, built by W. Gray & Co., Hartlepool, launched in 1885. She was owned by J. Lidgett & Sons, London. In 1911 she was sold to Scandinavian ownership (M. Bruusgaard, Drammen, Norway). Renamed 'Maella', she was broken up in 1923.
