Patch box

Oval patch box with a mirror inside the lid, commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The surface is enamelled, base and sides blue, the lid polychrome with a blue, white and gilt border. The lid is painted with a black foul anchor and the inscription 'Nelson' within a laurel wreath. 'Victory or', 'Westminster Abbey' is inscribed on the blue border - a version of Nelson's battle cry at the battle of Cape St Vincent.
