Patch box
Oval patch box with a mirror inside the lid, commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The surface is enamelled, the base white, sides blue, the lid polychrome with a blue and gilt border with white spots. The lid is painted with two vessels at sea, above flies a cherub holding a palm branch and blowing a trumpet. On a blue heart with a border of gilt and white dots between the ships is the inscription: 'Success attend our NAVY'.
