Patch box

Oval patch box commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) with a mirror inside the lid. The surface is enamelled, the base white and sides white with a blue leaf stripe decoration, interspersed with red flowers. The lid is painted in colour with a naval battle within a border of blue and gold zigzags decorated with white spots. The scene is surrounded by the inscription 'The Glorious Victory of Adm. Lord Nelson', '1st Aug 1798'.
