Patch box
Oval patch box with a mirror inside the lid, commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The surface is enamelled, the base white the sides royal blue. The lid has a blue and gilt border with white spots. In the centre a painted naval action with Fame blowing a trumpet and Hope leaning on an anchor in the foreground. Inscribed round the edge 'HOPE stands beholding their Actions most Glorious', 'FAMES Loud Trumpet sounds NELSON Victorious'.
