Patch box

Oval patch box with a mirror inside the lid, commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The surface is enamelled, the base and sides pink, the lid is polychrome with a pink and gold border with white spots. It is painted with a mourning female figure seated on the ground holding an anchor, a ship in the right background, with the inscription: 'Sacred to Nelson' on the plinth of a memorial behind the figure.
