Box commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) based on a medal. Obverse: The Admiral's bust, (left), undraped. Legend: 'HOR . VICECOM . NELSON OB PATRIAM PVGNANDO MORT . OCT XXI . MDCCCV.' (Died fighting for his country). Reverse: Bellona, winged, laureate, bundle of thunderbolts in raised right hand, stepping over the sea, on which in distance antique galleys are fighting. Legend: 'IPSE BELLI FVLMEN.' (Himself the thunderbolt of war). Each side is surrounded by a garter inscribed 'RECORD OF NAVAL VALOUR. EVERY MAN HAS DONE HIS DUTY'. The box contains 12 circular cards depicting Nelson's naval exploits. In a leather velvet and satin lined box.
