Box commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). A round oak box, the lid painted with a head and shoulders portrait of Nelson after Hoppner. Printed on a label inside: 'Capt C. F. Vande Byl, 16th (the Queen's) Lancers, Cavalry Club.' Written on the back: 'The oak of this box is part of a plank severed by a 36lb shot from the starboard gunnel of the Victory at the battle of Trafalgar 21st Oct. 1805.'
