Toothpick case
Toothpick case said to have been given by Frances, Lady Nelson, to her husband Horatio, Lord Nelson.
18 carat gold toothpick case with a close-fitting hinged lid. The case is of mirror-finish with laurel leaf borders of different coloured golds on the top, bottom and sides. In the centre of the lid is an additional small concealed lid, also laurel-bordered and inscribed 'Cher Souvenir'. It is hinged with a spring catch and inside there are two white enamel plaques lettered in black: 'Home Sweet Home' (damaged), and 'LOVE AND KISSES'. The main lid is hinged and inside the lid is a white enamel plaque lettered in black: 'FRANCES TO REAR ADMIRAL NELSON 1797'.
