Token box

Token box commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). A circular box with a screw-on lid. The lid and base are decorated with turned concentric rings and each is engraved '35' on the inside. It contains four gilt metal tokens, all have Nelson's profile on the obverse, facing left with the legend 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY'. Each token has a different inscription on the reverse: (a) 'ABOUKIR 14 ENG DEFEATED 15 FRENCH 10 TAKEN 2 BURNT AUG 1 1798' (b) 'ST VINCENT 15 ENG DEFEATED 27 SPANISH & CAPTURED 4 FEB 14 1797' (c) COPENHAGEN THE DAN. FLEET OF 17 SAIL TAKEN SUNK OR DESTROYED APL. 2. 1801'. (d) 'TRAFALGAR 27 ENG DEFEATED 33 SP. & FR. & CAPTURED 19 OCT 21 1805'.
