Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1758-1805
Miniature painting depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The circular miniature is painted on ivory and mounted as a badge in a glazed, star-shaped, silver frame with a beaded border. The frame has two lugs on the back and is inscribed 'Admiral Lord Nelson'. The image is after the standard (i.e. unhatted) portrait by Lemuel Francis Abbott, the sitter's head and shoulders being shown in uniform, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath, facing slightly to the right.
