Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1758-1805

Miniature painting depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) after Lemuel Francis Abbott. He is wearing uniform but no hat. The miniature is glazed and set in a gold mount with a suspension ring. On the reverse, two maidens and a youth are garlanding a tomb with an urn on top under a weeping willow. Inscribed on the tomb is: 'THY GRAVE WITH RISING FLOWERS BE DREST AND THE GREEN TURF LAY LIGHTLY ON THE BREAST HERE SHALL THE MORN HER EARLIEST TEAR BESTOW HERE THE FIRST ROSES OF THE YEAR SHALL BLOW'.
