Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1758-1805
Miniature painting depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The image is after the portrait by John Hoppner, but head and shoulders only, in full-dress uniform and without a hat, wearing two Naval gold medals, and the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath. A naval battle is shown in the background. The miniature is painted on ivory in a glazed gilt frame with a suspension ring. It is contained within an oval, red-leather case lined with white silk lining.
