Miniature painting

An enamel miniature depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), in full-dress uniform, hatless and facing 3/4 right. He is wearing two Naval gold medals and the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath. The image is after the painting by Sir William Beechey, 1800, of which the prime version was painted for the Corporation of Norwich. The miniature is in an oval gilt frame with a suspension ring and is inscribed on the reverse: 'Nelson April 1851 painted after Beechey by Henry Pierce Bone. Enamel painter to her Majesty, HRH Prince Albert &c &c'.
