Glass and ivory picture

Glass picture commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). A portrait of Nelson painted on the reverse of a circular glass dome with a gold border, this covers a painting of a naval battle on the ivory surface below. The picture is in a turned soapstone frame with a suspension ring. The image after the portrait by Lemuel Francis Abbott, the sitter shown wearing one Naval Gold medal and the star of the Order of the Bath. The empty left sleeve is split and tied with three black ribbons.
