Fan

A fan commemorating the siege of Gibraltar, 1727. Made of skin with ivory struts, held together with a brass pin with mother of guards. The design drawn by hand, painted in watercolour and gilded. On the front: a view of the British fleet and Gibraltar under siege. Inscribed: 'BRITAIN'S GLORY 1 Colours worn by the King. 2 The Lord High Admiral 3 Lord Torrington 4 Sr John Jennings 5 Sir John Norris 6 Sir Charles Wager 7 Sir Geo. Walton 8 Ad Morris 9 Ad Hughes 10 Mr Cavendish 11 Mr Balchen. A VIEW OF GIBRALTER [sic] SIEGE IN ye year 1727 by ye Spaniards under ye Com. de Torres. A. The old mole B. Ye moor's castle C.
