Marquetry picture of the Pleasure Steamer 'Glen Gower'. It is a finely worked marquetry panel on a plywood board with a narrow, stained frame. It depicts a profile of a 2-funnelled paddle steamer flying the red ensign and blue pennant from the foremast. The vessel has a black hull, green sheathing with rigging marked in pencil.
The picture was made by Neil Hughes of London, working from drawings supplied from the Museum's extensive collection of ship plans.
The picture depicts the pleasure steamer Glen Gower, which was launched from the Troon yard of Ailsa Shipbuilding Co Ltd., on 14 February 1922 for P & A Campbell Ltd. She was employed on the Bristol - Ilfracombe, Cardiff - Ilfracombe and Swansea - Ilfracombe runs, and later Brighton and on the south coast.
