Rear-Admiral the Hon. Sir Henry Keppel, 1809-1904
Small white marble classical-style bust with a cutaway back, on a round green marble base. The figure is shown as balding, draped round with a robe. It is identified by an inscription 'RA THE HON. SIR. H. KEPPEL. ABOUT 1863' and on the back 'INSOM / FECE'.
Keppel was a well-known Victorian naval officer of high social standing, who had an active and colourful career and died an Admiral of the Fleet at the age of 94. This object appears to relate to OBJ0488, a similar bust of his second wife, Jane (his first Katherine (Crosbie), whom he married in 1839, died in 1859).
