Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805)
Small wax head-and-shoulders bust of Nelson, with a cut-away back, on a round socle. He is shown facing forward, bare-headed, the hair parted centrally, no queue, and in uniform. Two medals hang by ribbons round the neck, with the sash of the Order of the Bath, decorations on the left breast and the right sleeve pinned across. It bears an inscription 'Pub by P Cave London 1844' and stands on a turned wooden base with a grooved rim, in which sits a protective glass dome. It was presented to the Royal Naval Museum, in the Royal Naval College at Greenwich, in April 1924 by a Mrs West and came from the collection of W. C. West, presumably her husband. The RN Museum collection was largely transferred to the NMM in 1936.
