Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1758-1805
Head-and-shoulders marble bust of Nelson on a round socle and with a cut-away back. The sitter is shown bare-headed, his head turned slightly to his left with a cloak draped round the shoulders over his uniform, which included the sash of the Order of the Bath and a single medal round the neck bearing the word 'Nile'. This item is part of the Sutcliffe-Smith Collection, on loan to the Museum from 1946 and purchased in July 1974.
