Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805)
Plaster statuette of Nelson on a square plaster base, the whole being black-painted. Nelson is shown bareheaded and in uniform including decorations sewn on, two medals on ribbons round the neck and the sash of the Order of the Bath draped diagonally from his right should across the body. His head is turned half to the right, looking slightly upwards. The empty uniform right sleeve is fixed across the front and the left arm is crooked, the hand supported by and resting on a cane which slopes back behind the heels of the figure. This item is part of a group of Nelsonic commemorative items presented to the Museum by HM Queen Mary, widow of King George V, in February 1939.
