Portrait plaque
Wax portrait plaque depicting Commander Nathaniel Belchier RN (fl.1784-1839). A small pink wax, profile portrait on a blue glass mount. This has an oval gilt frame set in a rectagular wood mount, an acorn and oak leaf gilt fitting for the hanging ring. Indistinct maker's initials on the truncation. Handwritten on the back of the mount 'Admiral Belchier 1804. Made by an officer of his ship from cheese.'
