Portrait plaque
Polychrome wax plaque depicting Admiral of the Fleet Richard, Earl Howe (1726-99). He is shown in profile, facing left, in uniform. The face appears orange, the coat is black, with yellow epaulettes, lace and buttons. The hair has traces of white. After the Wedgwood medallion modelled by John de Vaere in 1798. The wax is mounted on a glass background, black-backed, and in a glazed wooden frame painted brown. It is signed: 'Wyon F.' below the shoulder. 'HOWE' in yellow on the glass mount.
