Portrait plaque

Portrait plaque depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). A white wax profile of Nelson after the Wedgwood plaque modelled by John de Vaere, but with slight differences, for example the nose is more hooked, the right side of the collar is missing and there is no bow in the hair. The plaque shows Nelson in uniform with the Bath Star, sash and medal, epaulette and lace highlighted in gold. It is mounted on a clear glass background, with an oval wood and brass frame with a gadrooned edge. The plaque is glazed wih a black and gold border. 'Nelson 1805' is inscribed on the back of the wax.
