Portrait plaque

Portrait plaque depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). A gilt metal plaque depicting Nelson, facing left in uniform. Behind him are trumpets, a laurel wreath, a gun, flags and a foul anchor. Brilliants have been set in the uniform (seven blue, one red). The plaque is inscribed: 'IN MEMORY OF THE BATTLE OF COPENHAGEN. ADML LORD NELSON OF THE NILE. APR. 2 1801.' The plaque is set in an oval black wooden mount with a suspension ring. On the reverse is written in pencil: 'Medallion in memory of the Battle of Copenhagen given by Admiral Lord Nelson to his friends.'
