Portrait plaque

Wax portrait plaque depicting John Jervis, Earl St. Vincent (1735-1823). Polychrome, shown in uniform facing left. The colour of the face is very dark, the coat is painted blue with yellow lace, epaulettes and buttons. The figue wears a blue sash with the shadows touched in and a cream-coloured wig. It is after the Wedgwood medallion by John de Vaere, 1798. The profile is mounted on a dark backgound, in a glazed wooden frame painted black. It is signed: 'Wyon F,' (possibly dubious.) A label on the back reads: 'Ex St John's College', 'B15 Sir Tho. P.'
