Tray

Japanned metal tray commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). Rectangular in shape with canted corners and hand holds cut in the rim. The centre is painted in oils with a monument surmounted by a bust of Nelson crowned with laurel by Britannia and Fame. A cherub beside Fame's feet, writes down the hero's deeds. A fort and warships are shown in the background. Inscribed on the monument is 'HORATIO NELSON born at Burnham Thorpe In the County of Norfolk Sept. 26th 1758. Died 21 Oct. 1805'. The scene has a border of leaves flowers.
