Powder compact

Powder compact depicting King George VI (1895-1952). It is circular in shape and the lid shows the king in ceremonial uniform, orders and medals. He is not wearing a hat and is set against a blue background. This is a colour photographic print with a plastic finish. The underside of the compact is blue and undecorated. The inside of the compact's lid is highly polished making the white metal reflective. The inside of the base has a recessed circle with a synthetic mesh where the powder would have been. There is a maker's mark on the hinge and it has a decorative clasp. Gwenda was a trade name of the manufacturer Hussey Dawson, which operated from the Gwenda Works in Birmingham.
