Unknown 96ft, 20-22-gun sailing and rowing galley (circa 1630s)

Scale: 1:32 (approx). Plan showing the outboard profile with decoration detail and illustrating the sweeps in situ, and a section through one of the sweep ports illustrating the four crew per sweep on an unnamed 96ft, 20-22-gun sailing and rowing galley. The poop deck, quarterdeck, beakhead bulkhead and bow have all been slanted so that the decoration detail can be seen by the viewer.

The cypher on the ship, shown in a number of places, is that of Charles I, and could be similar to those ships (or 'pinnaces') built in 1637.

The profile illustrates the lower deck level in red dotted ink, revealing that it is a split-level deck under the quarterdeck and forecastle. The Midship section shows that the deck height would not allow for the sweeps to be effectively used by the crew, which are also illustrated on the plan in period costume.

The plan was folded into four at some point.

The reverse has a typed label glued to it "The Earl of Dartmouth / 21. A sketch of an English Galley on Vellum". See Mariner's Mirror pg170, 1961.
