Powder compact
A square-shaped, silver powder compact. It is decorated with a colour photographic print of George VI (1895-1952) in naval uniform mounted on a background of foil imitating turquoise iridescent butterfly wings. The surface has a plastic finish. The compact is inscribed: 'G.R. 1937', the year of George VI's coronation. The back is black. It contains a mirror, and a compartment covered with a gauze fabric to contain the powder. Inscribed inside below the mirror: 'GWENDA MADE IN ENGLAND.' Gwenda was a trade name of the manufacturer Hussey Dawson, which operated from the Gwenda Works in Birmingham.
