Teapot

Teapot owned by Nelson's brother William Nelson, 1st Earl Nelson (1757-1835).

Plain silver oval teapot with reeded borders, a straight spout and a wooden handle. The lid is hinged to the flat top of the teapot and has an oval wooden knop. On each side is engraved the Nelson chelengk crest and the San Josef crest with 'FAITH AND WORKS', surmounted by an Earl's coronet and a ducal coronet, engraved after 1805.
Bequeathed to Greenwich Hospital in 1915 by Thomas J. Barratt (a collector and historian, and Chairman of A & F Pears Ltd), who had acquired it with other Nelson silver at Christie's sale of Viscount Bridport's property 12 July 1895. It was purchased together with the teapot stand PLT0131.
