Submarine cable section
A section of submarine cable. It is cylindrical with metal bands at either end and in the middle. Section of Atlantic cable, the core consists of seven copper wires covered with layers of gutta percha and then a cushion of tarred jute. The outer sheathing consists of eighteen, galvanised iron wires of seven strands each, twenty-two gauge.
