Submarine cable section

A section of submarine cable. It is cylindrical with metal bands at either end. Section of Atlantic cable. The core consists of seven copper wires coated with layers of gutta percha and cushioned by tarred jute. The outer sheathing consists of ten galvanised iron wires, each covered by a serving of hemp soaked in tar, india rubber and pitch.
