Wine coaster
One of a pair of wine coasters or decanter stands owned by Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson (1758-1805).
it consists of circular silver wine coasters with gadrooned rims (the other is PLT0135). There is a turned wooden base with a central silver engraved medallion, with Nelson's chelengk and 'SAN JOSEF' crests. The base is covered with green baize.
Four matching coasters are in a private collection. On 8 December 1805 Nelson paid his silversmith John Salter eighteen shillings to varnish and polish six bottle stands.
