Oval silver arm badge from the Deptford Appretinces Regatta 1862

Oval silver arm badge (brassard) won at the Deptford Apprentices Regatta 1862.

The badge is embossed with the coat of arms of the Watermen's Company (a shield depicting a waterman's skiff and crossed oars, with dolphin supporters) within a scrolling border of roses, thistles and shamrocks. At the top is the inscription: 'DEPTFORD APPRENTICES ANNUAL REGATTA' and below the arms is: 'Won by R.F. Cornish JULY 21ST 1862'.

The back has four metal bars soldered on, for attachment to the sleeve of a waterman's prize coat.
