Salt pot: Union Castle Line

A bell shaped silver plate salt pot that was used as part of the first class table set on Union Castle Line ships. The pot flares outwards with 4 ridges going downwards at the edge of its bell shape. The pot then contracts down towards a small stand at the bottom. The lid of the pot has a single hole for the salt to pour out of. There is a faded decorative zig-zag pattern around the rim between the lid and the body of the pot. There is some corrosion around the rim between the lid and the body of the pot. Inscribed on the pot are the words "MAPPIN & WEBB, LONDON & SHEFFIELD, MAPPIN PLATE, G, C1/ 93".
