Pepper pot: Union Castle Line

A bell shaped silver plate pepper pot used as part of the first class table set on Union Castle Line ships. The pot flares outwards with 4 ridges going downwards at the edge of its bell shape. The pot then contracts down towards a small stand at the bottom. Underneath the ridge of the pot is the emblem of a lifebelt for the passenger company Union Castle Line The lid of the pot has several small holes for the pepper to pour out of. The rim has a decorative zig-zag pattern going all the way round. The lid of the pot is slightly tarnished. inscribed on the pot are the wrods "TRIPLE DEPOSIT, MAPPIN & WEBB, PRINCES PLATE, LONDON & SHEFFIELD, N, C1/ 93".
