Sugar sifter: Union Castle Line

A silver plate sugar sifter that was used as part of the first class place setting on Union Castle Line ships. It consists of a baluster shaped sifter on a stepped circular foot with a pierced top. There is a engraved top below the screw top opening. Engraved on the side are the words "UNION CASTLE LINE". Inscribed on the base are the words "MAPPIN & WEBB, LONDON & SHEFFIELD, MAPPIN PLATE, D, CI/87". The sifter is pitted around the neck.
