Silver cigar case

Large silver cigar case with inscribed lid, a replica of an earlier box presented to Messrs R & H Green & Silley Weir. The plain silver box contains a thin wooden lining with two moveable divisions for cigars of different sizes. Leather base.The top of the cushion-shaped silver lid is engraved with a (worn) inscription: 'Presented to Messrs R & H Green and Silley Weir Ltd Blackwall Yard by Rear Admiral A S Lafone and staff in recognition of "open handed hospitality" during the Great War 1914-1918.' A silver label inside the lid is engraved 'This box is a replica of the one originally presented to the Firm at the end of the First World War 1914-1918 and destroyed in the R A Dk office fire caused by enemy action on March 19th 1941.'The silver box is contained within an outer baize-lined plain wooden box with a broken catch.
