Napkin ring

Silver napkin ring, representing the Royal Navy career of Commander W. B. S Wrey.

Plain silver ring engraved with owner's name on one side and two family crests (a sleeved arm holding a battleaxe, and the head of a jester). Below the crests is a reef knot and the Wrey motto 'LE BON TEMPS VIENDRA' (Good times will come).

Listed sideways around the rest of the ring are the names of Wrey's ships: 'BRITANNIA 78 TO 80; SUPERB 80 .. 84; CARYSFORT/ TEMERAIRE 84 .. 85; RN COLLEGE 85 .. 86; BELLEROPHON 86 .. 88; SEVERN 89 .. 92; ROYAL SOVEREIGN 92 ..94; SWIFT 94 ...97; DIANA, JUBILEE REVIEW 97; BLACK PRINCE 97 .. 98; BARFLEUR 98 .. 1900; NAVAL BRIGADE PEKIN; HANNIBAL 01 .. 04; WAR COURSE 04; EDINBURGH 06 ..05.'

William B. S. Wrey was a lieutenant in 1895 and a commander in 1905.
