Francis Connin, Surgeon RN

A photographic, daguerreotype miniature of Francis Connin, Surgeon RN (circa 1768-1857). The miniature depicts the sitter at the age of 88 and he is shown without a hat and wearing a black jacket, textured waistcoat, white shirt and black neckcloth. Over his left breast is a Naval General Service Medal. The photographic print has a gold coloured mount, which is embossed with a floral design and has an oval aperture. The glazing is made of clear glass with a gold-coloured, metal frame, which is also embossed. The miniature is in a brown leather case, which is embossed with a vase of flowers at the middle and with gold borders. The inside of the lid is lined with red velvet with an impressed design. A label pasted onto the case is inscribed: 'F. Connin / Surgeon RN / Taken at the age of 88 / Died at the age of 90'.
