Leather purse

Red leather purse containing the hair of Grace Horsley Darling (1815-42). The wallet contains a small decorated pocket at either end. One shows a head and shoulder portrait of Nelson (facing right) ships behind. The second shows a female figure mourning at a tomb. The pockets contain a newspaper cutting relating to Nelson and a piece of paper containing a lock of hair said to be that of Grace Darling. Inscription: 'Miss Grace Horsley Darling's Hair Presented by her father and sister at the Farne Islands to ISTS (?) 25 July 1845'. A small pocket book in the centre is inscribed: 'Margaret Jones the gift of Mr Harrison August 8th 1806.' There is also a small loose note inserted into the pocket book.
