Coin
Coin. The coin is stuck to an unidentified encrusted metal object. Very probably from the wreck of HEIC 'Hindostan' from which a large number of coins were salvaged by Deane and others. An associated label is inscribed: 'Sheath + coin (NB-date-03) from an Indiaman sunk in Margate roads recovered by Mr J. Dean a Ramsgate diver who died aged 90 or more before 1897. J Dean was the first diver to go down with a diving helmet. He blew up the Royal George sunk at Spithead 1782 and he blew up the men of war sunk at Sebastopol (in the fifties).'
