Princess Elizabeth (1927)

Scale 1:48. Plan showing General Arrangement profile and decks of the paddle steamer Princess Elizabeth (1927) for the Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company (Red Funnel Line), for excursion sailings from Southampton and Bournemouth.

Drawing no. 1936; also carries the archive? no. 31. Marked in pencil "Princess Elizabeth Contract Plan". Flying Bridge differs from that as fitted. Fore Deck left clear for the carriage of motor cars. See below for note on 1947 modification.

Vessel was requisitioned as a minesweeper in 1939. Four trips to Dunkirk in May 1940, lifting 1673 personnel. Returned to owners in 1946; converted to oil burning and Bridge enclosed in 1947. Drawing updated.

Sold to new owners Torbay Steamers Ltd in 1959; last used for excursion work in 1965.

Static use under various owners on the River Thames in London and The Seine in Paris. Moved 1999 to Dunkirk, restored (minus engine) and used as a tourism and conference centre.
