State funeral ticket
Ticket to the funeral of Lord Nelson, 9th January 1806, number 289, admitting G.P. Brietzcke (clerk, later civil servant) into the procession from the Admiralty to St. Pauls. With a black seal impression on the bottom right hand corner. Signed by Sir Isaac Heard, Garter King of Arms. Printed at the top with draped curtains and a winged, female figure holding two trumpets, one with a banner bearing the arms of Westminster Abbey. Below a sarcophagus with crossed palm branches with 'TRAFALGAR' and a ribbon and the motto below: 'PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT'. Inscribed: 'FUNERAL of the late VICE ADMIRAL HORATIO VISCOUNT NELSON Admit G.P. Brietzcke Esq. into the Procession from the Admiralty to St. Paul's Cathedral. Isaac Heard Garter No. 289'.
