Vice-Admiral Nelson's walking stick
Cane/walking stick belonging to Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). Purchased from the 5th Earl Nelson. The stick has silver and ivory mounts. A paper engraved with the Nelson family arms and inscribed: 'Earl Nelson' is wrapped round the stick above the ferrule. On a silver band: 'Horatio Viscount Nelson Died at Trafalgar October 21 1805'. On the brass ferule 'C.J. Burton, Carlisle'. Said to be a Neopolitan stick which belonged to Nelson and afterwards to Chevalier his steward in the 'Victory' at Trafalgar.
