Boot

One of a pair of boots that belonged to Captain F. L. McClintock (1817-1907). They were intended to be worn over woollen foot wrappers and thick socks. They consist of brown leather shoes with a canvas upper. Each shoe having two straps which lace together over the top of the foot, the laces passing through two pairs of eyeletted holes. The canvas tops each has a draw string at the top to secure it under the wearers knee over the trousers, to keep out loose snow. On an attached label: 'Canvas boots for moderate cold before and also after the thaw. Medium size.'
